PAMUKKALE LANDSCAPE OBSERVATORY

Understanding the natural cycles of growth and decay is key to interpreting the unusual landscape of Pamukkale. Embracing the decay process instead of seeing it as an obstacle. The project is based on a holistic approach to the constant change of the site, treating it as the biggest value and source of conceptual thinking about architectural interventions in the sensitive natural environment. The roof of the observatory melts into the slope on one side, which enables the flow of the water. Spontaneous water movement will cause a slow visual transformation of the structure over time by mineral layers accumulating every year. The building becomes an organic sculpture, almost a land art form that changes over the years.

This study shows how the transformation of the landscape and flow of the water inflences the building, slowly covering it with layer of rock. With time building and landscape will melt together, one day the pavilion will completely disappear, becoming a secret cave in the natural landscape of Pamukkale
